TLDR; I love this pillow now but it did take a few days to learn how to use it properly and during that time I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep it.
I spent a ton of time trying to decide if I wanted a buckwheat pillow and trying to figure out which one would work for me. I also snore and have a CPAP and really wanted to make sure the pillow was good with a full face mask. With my old pillow it would compress and my chin would end up in my chest when I was sleeping and I would start snoring again. I decided on this one because I really like a high firm pillow when I'm on my side and I wanted this pillow to be under my neck and keep my chin up when I'm on my back to keep my airway open. I'm about 5'2" and the smaller version was recommended but I thought I wanted to keep my neck higher when I sleep on my side which is the way I'm sleeping most of the time.
When I first lay on the pillow it felt like when your massage therapist holds up your head with their fingertips. Heaven for a tight neck. Then I slept on it and the first night and it felt way too hard and was very uncomfortable. I took out about a pound and a half of the buckwheat hulls and tried it again the next night. It was much better and I slept better than I normally do with fewer apneas but it still wasn't as comfortable as I wanted it to be. I also found when I was flipping over in the night it took me longer to get comfortable and go back to sleep. So now I knew that they were correct in recommending the smaller one as I didn't need the larger one.
So I lay down on it before bed and tried getting it into the right position before I went to bed. In the end I discovered I like a softly curved area for my head when I'm on my side and when I'm on my back I like a bit of hulls supporting my neck and then the rest sloped downwards. So now when I'm sleeping it's just as easy to rearrange this pillow as it was to rearrange my old one. The difference is that this one stays in the position that I want it to. When I switch to my back I now rub my hand from side to side to make the little indent in the middle and when I sleep on my back I smooth it back on an angle toward the bed and then push it forward a bit at the top for my neck. This sounds like a lot but it's less effort than when I used to punch my pillow a little and then push it up under my neck.
My neck and shoulders feel a lot better since I got it and as an office worker who is in front of my computer most of the day that's always been an issue for me.
